Originally intended as a self-release, it was picked up by Motema Records in 2007. No longer available there, the original has just been released, and distributed by MoonJune. In 2006 I had decided to revisit my first love, the Hammond Organ, putting aside the racks of synthesizers that I was best known for using. The instrumentation of this and my next 4 releases were built around the concept of the classic organ trio – organ, guitar, drums – but with variations and additions. Besides drummer Danny Gottlieb, “Icarus” featured several percussionists and 1 or 2 tracks with bassist Tony Levin. Mike DeMicco, my band-mate from The Brubeck Brothers Band, is on several tracks, but notably, this is my first project association with the brilliant guitarist Joe Beck. There are several of my original compositions, as well as a couple by my mentor Jimmy Giuffre, one by Steely Dan, one by The Beach Boys, and for the first time, my arrangement of Ralph Towner’s “Icarus” – an arrangement that The Levin Brothers Band still plays live 15 years later.

Original limited edition on Pete Levin's Woodstock CD, and released on Motema in 2007 with a different album cover, and, while the Motema's album is out of print, the original limited edition is available now again via MoonJune Music.
